A glimpse into As Poetry Flows is revealed here:
Ascension
The feet on which I set were rough.
The paths on which they have trod are worn.
Yet, these weary feet moved on; a starting place for my climb.
The legs to which I have clung were strong.
The volumes of miles they have trudged, unknown.
Yet, these legs never quivered; their strength inspiring my climb.
The hips on which I rode were wide.
The bruises show clear from the scores of others they carried.
Yet, these hips were sturdy; a resting place and foothold for my climb.
The backs on which I climbed were scarred.
Though I tried, I could not count all of the lashes they endured.
Yet, these backs accepted the load; offering their deep wounds as handles for my climb.
The shoulders on which I stand are broad.
I could only begin to describe the weight that these shoulders have borne.
Yet, these shoulders have never once tipped to let one fall.
They stand fast, waiting for me to make my next ascension.
Please Forgive My Stare
I apologize for staring, but I can’t remove my gaze.
When I look at you, I’m just so amazed!
Amazed at your compassion; amazed by your caring.
So, you see, that’s why you often catch me staring.
Stop staring you say, and I wish I could.
But you’re so astounding, I know that I never should.
I only mean to look your way for a quick glance,
Then I’m reminded of our travels and our happenstance.
Once again, I’ve been distracted and forgot to remove my gaze.
As in my mind, I walk through the beautiful memories we’ve made…
Our children, our home, our travels, and fun
The sicknesses, the struggles and how far we’ve come.
There it is again; I’ve again been caught staring.
I’m wrapped up in my thoughts of you and our years of sharing.
What was meant to be a glance your way as you walked by,
Now has me entranced by your unforgettable smile and those beautiful eyes!
Your not quite a dimple, your freckles, and shape of your chin
Dang, I was just caught staring again!
I really don’t mean to stare or gawk.
But I simply love watching you walk.
Your curves, your laugh, your voice, your touch,
They overload my senses and are often too much.
I know… Stop Staring.
You may think I’m looking at what you have on.
But my mind is back with you coming down the aisle as I sing our wedding song.
Or maybe we’re in the pool or on vacation at the beach.
A look your way unlocks memories I normally can’t reach.
Now we’re back at the park with my arms around your waist.
Now at our first movie, now at our first date.
All these places and special moments flooding my mind,
Reveling in your full beauty and sequencing them in time.
But here we go… I’m caught staring again
As I wonder what’s next for me and my best friend.
Yes, my momma did teach me that it’s not nice to stare.
But when I look at you, that’s just not fair!
A glance your way is simply not enough,
Because it comes with all of this other stuff.
When I look your way, I’m taken through decades of time.
As I stroll through our life together in my mind.
So, what starts as a glance, often I forget to look away
Because my S.T.A.R.E is me… Seeing The Angel Revealed Everyday!
