"HEYYYYYYY!" Rachel said with a lopsided goofy grin, waving her hand enthusiastically as she and David jogged over. "We all made it. That's great!"
Mackey's smile dropped, and he looked between Rachel and David. "What happened?"
"That's what I'd like to know. Rachel never acts this happy or…valley girlish." Terry said, frowning.
"Blow me, Ms. Priss." Rachel said, suddenly hostile.
"Rachel. Are you and David high?" Jerod asks as he closes the distance between them to look into their eyes.
"No! We never do drugs!" She said emphatically, then thought better of it. "Well…maybe."
"Water!" Jerod yelled as he and Terry helped the two sit down. "What happened."
"We were wrong!" She said, falling into a slight giggling fit as Terry tried to get David to drink. "They had dogs! Really cute but mean ones!"
"We…hid?" David said, looking to Rachel for clarification before continuing. "In a trailer park. Found several…ugh…bricks I think they were called… of a white powder…cocaine maybe? I dunno. Came up with a great idea to stop the dogs from tracking us."
"Heheheheh. Yup!" Rachel said, rolling back onto the ground. "Took the bricks, set some charges in the ground. A layer of dirt, and then put bricks on them before covering them in another light layer of dirt and twigs. BOOM! Big white clouds as the doggies and jackasses got close!"
"That explains the explosions we heard," Mackey said, looking at Jerod.
"Us too. We thought they were grenades or something. I guess since we were so far away, the sound was muffled more." Terry said
"What we didn't take out in the explosion was…indis...indes…out of the fight." David chipped in before putting his head in his hands. "Ughhh."
"Hahaha yeah! Dogs that survived were on the moon when we got done with them, especially when they tried to track us! We stayed quiet after that, even as the last white cloud got pushed over us with the wind change. Finally managed to get here!" She said before getting serious and looking around like she was dubious of the area. "We are where we're supposed to be, right? You all aren't hallucinations? Seen a few of those on the way here… I think."
"Yup, we're real. You're here, have a seat and drink some water." Jerod said with a laugh as he kneeled next to her.
Almost as if god had a horrible sense of humor, Rachel slapped Jerod's left shoulder and his legs gave out with a grunt, causing everyone there to look at him. Shocked, Rachel recoiled a bit, almost losing her balance as she backed up. The others stared at him curiously, wondering what happened.
"What's wrong with you?" Terry asks.
"Nothing. Just lost my balance." Jerod said through gritted teeth as sweat beaded up on his forehead and fought against every spike of pain to not show it.
"Bull, you've been favoring your left side since…" Terry started. Jerod could see the wheels in her head come to a grinding halt before going into a different gear. "Jerod Landon Connor, did you get hit and not tell me?!"
