About the Book

All of us are faced with the problem of scarcity in the health sector. Taking part in discussion requires an understanding of the main arguments used to justify new procedures, and to discard those existing ones which are not as effective. It is also important to understand the limitations of medical science, particularly the problems posed by the randomised controlled trial, as well as the potential of (for example) lattice analysis in situations where quality of life simply cannot be measured meaningfully

About the Author

Here is someone who has led hundreds of students to understand economics, over 37 years, and who, through his PhD, and subsequently, has produced research results of interest to his colleagues in a demanding area of health economics, with insights into research methods (especially clinical trials) which give grounds for caution in the implementation of health policy. AHe is also a leader in the area of Work-Based Learning, as his achievements on the Board of the UK’s professional placement body show, culminating as they did in the award of an Honorary Membership.
