Oscar the Osprey and the Council Quandary

Oscar is frantically flying in the face of the storm towards Goo’s cave. He wants to speak his mind to Goo. He confronts even stronger winds than earlier, but he detects something different about this storm. Things are swirling around in the air and the rain is coming faster at him. He almost misses the cave because the opening is covered by mangled and tangled trees. “Goo!” he yells. He screams: “Are you in there?” From inside he hears a muffled sound and then the loud voice of Goo, “Yes, I am in here with Woo! We can’t get out! You must warn everyone about the storm. We may be getting a Tornado!” Oscar is surprised that Woo is meeting with Goo. “What’s Woo doing in there with you?” he asks. His mind, however, reverts quicky, back to the storm. He sees the danger building. Oscar has never heard of a Tornado, so he is unsure what Goo is talking about. Goo continues, “They can be very dangerous and can destroy the forest and even animals and birds if they don’t find shelter!” Goo remembers his rare encounter with a Tornado during a migration where he almost did not survive, and thus is very aware of the danger. Then as Oscar turns from listening to Goo, he sees something he has never seen before, a violently spinning dark cloud leading down to the ground and digging a path through the forest and heading straight for the lake. Oscar describes the funnel to Goo. He heard Goo repeating, “It’s a Tornado. Go warn the flock, forget about us! Tell them it is no good just to stay in the trees!” Oscar can see the destruction from the Tornado and understands Goo orders. He takes off toward the lake at once to alert the Ospreys. Along the way, he sees Otto and Oprah heading toward him. They are frightened by the turmoil that is coming in their direction and ask Oscar, “What can we do?”
