At the top of this healthcare food chain is the Elephant-in-the-Room – Our Broken Healthcare System. Broken from the perspective of the three members of my audience outlined above, the employer, the benefits advisor, and the employee/patient of healthcare. Not broken from, but created by, the perspectives of the health insurers and healthcare providers of our U.S. healthcare ecosystem. Rather, the "system" was designed by and is controlled by these complicit parties named. The costs associated with healthcare today top our charts as the lead GNP performer (that is – Gross National Product/profit maker) in this country's economy. Have you ever wondered about or even researched the financials of those big cartel-like insurance companies and big healthcare systems? Is anyone regulating their oppressive profits, which seem to grow larger the more you and your employees lose ground in the process? Some even claim to be non-profits but outperform most taxable companies running along right beside them. Have you ever seen a non-profit voluntarily return premiums regularly because they charged you too much money? OR, are they simply reinvesting their profits into bigger service systems and keep charging you more at every turn no matter how big they get? When, if ever, they returned premiums or rebated money to you, was it a transparent transaction, or did you scratch your head and ask, how did this happen?
Is Healthcare in our country so out of control that the hospitals, physicians, and other practitioners in the formula, for example pharmaceuticals, specialist's treatments, etc. are all conspiring to work with the health insurers to bankrupt you and your employees? Is that legal? In fact, the number one cause of bankruptcy in our country (USA) today is unaffordable healthcare (insurance + out-of-pocket expenses of healthcare). Yet, the Insurance Company Networks and providers of care that make up those networks conspire by including automatic fee increases annually that result in "automatic rate increases to your plan and the costs associated with benefit claims”. Another question is, have you ever thought, what if you or your company had a piece of that health insurance dollar and its profit margins? If you think that the problem with all of this corruption comes down to the risk they retain, think again. Even the big 4 or 5 insurance carriers referred to above as the cartels don't bear much of that so-called risk. They even buy insurance themselves, called re-insurance, to lay off or eliminate most of that risk from their liability, leaving most of your premium dollars to generate more profits for them and more expense for you. You actually pay for that re-insurance coverage for them within your premiums without ever knowing it. "The rich just keep getting richer…" And there is yet another cost component of the beast that must be overcome. That is the method by which "we, the pawns" of the system, access our own healthcare today. We have complicitly allowed the beast to tell us where to go for our own good health, when to go for our own good health, and all without informing us about the quality we should expect to receive for those services, nor the costs associated with those services. Way too many times, "we the public" push the easy button or simply head off to the local hospital emergency room for a simple head cold, backache, hay fever attack, or poison ivy breakout. These simple maladies should and must be treated more efficiently in a more appropriate fashion, such as at the primary care physician's office, at a walk-in clinic, or through a simple telehealth phone call with a virtual Doc.
Solution
So, if any of those target subjects is you and you are ready to conquer this seemingly invincible beast, take heart. There is an answer, and that is, if you are going to win this battle, you must wrestle control away from this out-of-control beast. You must take control away from the beast and be willing to make decisions to run your own Company and yourself. And fear not, You don't have to risk the farm and expose yourself to excessive liability to accomplish this task. I can show you how and outline the steps for you within this manuscript. So, here is the catch, if there is one: If you expect to do the same things you have been doing (i.e., give your insurance plans. finances, and administration in the form of "premiums" along with the procedural methods of" accessing healthcare" over to the BUCA's); and yet expect a different result, then you qualify as the definition(icon) of insanity. And you will not succeed. To the contrary, you must change the way you both finance and access healthcare in the system as it exists today. Given it is a complex web of deception, but with some simple coaching and determination, you can WIN this battle with sustainable solutions. The overall objective is to save money year-after-year, to provide the highest quality of healthcare available to your participants, and to finally eliminate the headache of dealing with the BUCAs once-and-for-all. The side benefit for you, the employer is to build an additional asset for your business model that can be passed along to succeeding business concerns.
