About the Author
Kate was born in North Warwickshire, the elder daughter of a mining engineer and was brought up in mining villages in that area before spending three years in central London, training as a teacher. Most of her teaching career was spent teaching maths, amongst other subjects, at a comprehensive school in Crowthorne in Berkshire. After her divorce, she continued to live with her sons and teach parttime, but at 49, suffered a stroke and spent five months in hospital, learning to walk again and to look after herself. Although she returned to teaching she found this more challenging than previously, and at 51 took early retirement. She returned to live near family, in the midlands, with her sons and worked part-time for a disability charity, her sons eventually moving back to Berkshire for work. Following full retirement, she joined U3A learning many new things and making new friends, eventually starting a creative writing group and fulfilling a lifelong ambition to write speculative fiction.
