About the Book

SKEWED VIEWS presents an eccentric and amusing cartoon look at the flaws and foibles that connect us to each other and to the world around us. Stylistically, Schlemme’s drawings differ from many of today’s cartoonists in that he has evolved a form of expression that goes well beyond traditional, simple line drawings. His characters, which are fleshed out and dimensional, greatly heighten the visual impact of his humor. Finally, SKEWED VIEWS contains over 150 lively cartoons that are bigger, and probably funnier, than the ones you’ll find in your average not-that-big, not-that-funny cartoon book.

About the Author

The artist, Roy Schlemme, has won over ninety national and international awards for graphic excellence and art direction (including Distinctive Merits from the Art Directors Club of New York, American Institute of Graphic Arts and Graphis Annual, to name a few). He has managed his own art studio in the New York Metro Area for a number of years, offering both art and design to a broad range of ad agencies, magazines and educational publishers. Included among Schlemme’s varied projects are co-creation and design direction for six years of SuperMag (a monthly children’s’ magazine published by Xerox Educational Publications), art and design on thirteen educational classroom films (primarily for Harcourt Brace) focusing on language, math, science and ethics, and a number of award-winning calendars and promotional pieces for Bill Communications, a prime publisher in the restaurant industry. Although he has often marketed his humorous illustrations as part of larger graphics projects, this is the first collection of Roy’s offbeat panel cartoons to be published in book form.
