With that the deal was done. Neither party spit on their hands to shake on it, or anything else. It was just a simple verbal agreement. Words. That is all it was. Nothing more. But words are powerful. They are devastating. They can have serious ramifications. For Scott Langer, these ramifications would become brutal. Though he knew it not at the time, Scott Langer had just made the worst mistake of his life. For next eighteen months an untold amount of pain and suffering would wreck Scott Langer's life just because of these simple words, and it was all because of this single, solitary episode! It seemed totally innocent at the time. However, a whore can seem innocent. For innocence is often used as the cover for depravity. Depravity can lead to corruption, and corruption is everywhere. Scott Langer was now corrupt.
Mad Dog was good as his word, in fact better than his word. Three days later, Mad Dog came knocking on Scott’s dorm room. In one hand Mad Dog had a one-thousand, seven hundred, and fifty milliliter bottle of Chivas Regal! In the other hand, Mad Dog had a one-thousand, seven hundred, and fifty milliliter bottle of Johnny Walker Black! Scott just stood there. He was speechless. He really couldn’t believe it. It just didn’t seem real somehow. But while Scott was awestruck, Mad Dog was more than willing to strike up a conversation:
“Man dude, I got an A! Haven’t had one of them years. The teacher was so impressed. He even decided not to dock me for being late! Man, you’re totally awesome!”
“Umm, that’s good,” Scott agreed. “Glad to have helped.”
Mad Dog was ready to hand over to Scott Langer both bottles of the premium Scotch quite willingly. Scott was now confused again, but Mad Dog explained it all to him quite nicely:
“This one,” Mad Dog said as he handed Scott the bottle of Chivas Regal. “Is for my paper. This one,” he then handed Scott the bottle of Johnny Walker Black. “Is for my paper due in two weeks!”
Scott was thinking about that line from the movie, Casablanca that goes something to the affect, “This is the start of a beautiful friendship.” Unfortunately, it was not. It was not the truth. It was a lie! Regrettably, Scott Langer had no way to know, right at that moment, that he had just made a pact with the devil. Consequently, Scott Langer was now a first class passenger with a one-way ticket punched straight to hell, and he could not handle the ride. However, Scott Langer had no way of knowing that at the time either.

About the Author
John D. Loscher holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration. In 2004, he was awarded his Teaching Certificate from the State of Illinois. He is a former military enlisted soldier and commissioned officer in the United States Air Force. A veteran of the 1991 Persian Gulf War, he is a lifetime writer of scholarly papers and military reports. Only recently did he turn his attention to writing fiction. He is the author of the successful novels Coming Out of the Dark, The Black Madonna, and In the Hands of the Gods. In 2006, writing under the penname of J.D. Cooper, he penned the novel Window to the Soul. His previous work, the epic two-volume narrative, The Bolsheviks, is the product of more than three years of historical research as well as fact-finding trips to both Eastern Europe and Russia. He is currently hard at work writing his next novel.
