About the Book

The author’s original intent when he first started his TALES OF THE BEARTOOTH was to write a single book about his most exciting adventures with wildlife, cowboys and dudes during his many years of owning and operating a guest ranch outside Yellowstone Park.  He ended up writing three books instead because he found he had so many adventures to write about.

He made an initial decision to place stories about wildlife in one book and stories about cowboys and dudes in two additional ones.  However, he received many complaints from readers who stated that they wanted wildlife stories mixed in with other stories about the Beartooths.  He has resolved these complaints by consolidating THE BEST OF THE TALES OF THE BEARTOOTH into this single volume.

About the Author

John C. Mouat was born in 1921 in a log cabin on a ranch near Custer, Montana.  This is just a “stone’s throw” from the Battlefield on the Little Big Horn River where General Custer and many of his troopers were massacred in 1876.

In World War II, the author piloted Flying Fortress bombers from England to targets in Germany and was badly injured during a raid on industrial targets in the Ruhr Valley.  He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for flying skill and bravery for this service.  During his career, he was secretary to General Dwight D. Eisenhower; congratulated by Princess Elizabeth, future Queen of England; kissed by famous actress Hedy Lamar; and dined with Generalissimo and Madame Chiang Kai Shek.  He also flew combat in Korea from 1950-1953.

This is the author’s sixth book.  The first three were titled TALES OF THE BEARTOOTH and describe his adventures with wildlife, cowboys and dudes while owning and operating a guest ranch in Montana’s rugged Beartooth Mountains near Yellowstone Park.  The fourth was about the Air War in Korea and the fifth traces his life from growing up on one of America’s “Last Frontiers” to flying combat in two wars.

The author lives with his wife Carolynn in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
