The small girl with short, platinum blonde hair leaned against the wall in pain, near her parents’ bed, and sitting on the floor. She was crying profusely, and tears rolled down her already wet red cheeks. Yet she did not make a sound. She pushed her head back each time she thought she would cry out loud to stop the shrieks that brewed inside her chest, struggling to be released. At times, the pressure was too much to hold back, and she ended up sobbing then stopped midway due to the terror she felt. The man lying high on the bed at the side of her had warned her repeatedly that if she uttered as much as a groan, he would give her a worse beating. She flailed her tiny arms and raised them to her head, pulling slightly on the ends of her locks. What about Mom? What about her? Why couldn’t she help her?
She heard movement on the bed and her heart raced. She did not dare look up. But she saw him from the corner of her eye. Her father leaned on his elbow to lift himself up and stare down at her.
