About the Book

TORN COVENANTS, sequel to THE MISTS OF MANITTOO, in THE DOWLAND TRILOGY, is the moving story of Elizabeth Dowland and Wakwa Manunnappu, her Native American husband, striving to build a life together in a world bent on tearing them apart. It is 1748. Elizabeth is now living in the Massachuseuck town with Wakwa and his other wife, Qunneke. Wakwa’s mythic march north to secure peace with the northern tribes and Elizabeth’s efforts to teach the skill of weaving to the Massachuseuck women result in betrayal and injury. Overcoming mortal dangers and succeeding in protecting Beth’s vast land inheritance with sanction by the British Crown bring the red and white families ever closer. About the Author

LOIS SWANN, novelist, is the author of the much praised historical novels, THE MISTS OF MANITTOO, TORN COVENANTS, and SIPPICON, comprising THE DOWLAND TRILOGY, and the contemporary novel, THE PAINTER. She has a background in theatre and corporate banking as well as in freelance teaching and editing. Her firm belief that a People’s language illustrates their character led her to interweave Narragansett with English dialogue and description in THE DOWLAND TRILOGY. A native New Yorker, she currently lives on Cape Cod with her husband, a sea captain
