Collins adjusted his clothing and glasses one final time. He took a deep breath, looked around and asked, "Ready?" Swartz nodded and stepped behind Collins. Collins moved cautiously several yards. He stopped, turned and motioned. He believed the address was directly in front of them. He bent down and took a handful of moist dirt. Swartz did the same. They smeared the dirt on their faces and hands. Adjusting their night vision glasses in place, they moved forward. A ten-foot high wire security fence completely encircled the warehouse grounds. At first glance, the fence posed a huge obstacle. They separated to locate an entrance, making hand signals to one another as they moved. Silently, they made their way around the fence toward an open makeshift gate. Stopping for a moment, they listened to the night. Nothing stirred.
Suddenly, Collins stopped and cried out in a penetrating whisper, "Here! Over here!" The beam of Swartz’s flashlight swung around trying to find Collins. He called, "What is it?" and ran toward the light. They stood rigid with their eyes fixed on Collins’s light. It was shining on the wooden pillars that supported the building. As Collins held the beam of his flashlight on the spot, Swartz moved his light up and down the framework. Halfway up the support, two rafters crossed each other forming the shape of a cross. It was here that they saw what they had been dreading.

About the Book
This is a modern day novel of suspense and intrigue set within the glamorous diplomatic community of Vienna, Austria. An American Embassy communicator, Alan Barr, has not returned from his scheduled vacation. The State Department is notified and the message is re-routed to CIA Headquarters in Langley, Virginia. Johnny Collins, a CIA trouble-shooter, immediately departs for Vienna. Shortly after Collins arrives, Barr's body is discovered. With the assistance of the Embassy staff and CIA Chief-of-Station, Roy Greenly, Collins investigates the death. As they work their way through a maze of related Embassy situations, Collins uncovers the probability that Barr was a double agent for the Russians. The involvement of a Russian SVR agent and several other foreign terrorists with their own agendas adds to the dilemma. The death of an American courier, the kidnapping of an American school bus, and the bombing at a diplomatic reception adds mystery and suspense. The Russian’s overwhelming desire to outsmart an American counterpart only contributes to the intrigue.
About the Author
Elizabeth Jung was born and raised on a farm near Danbury, in Western Iowa. She was one of seven children and received her AA degree at Mt. Mercy in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Returning to college after the children were gone, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. She has lived and traveled extensively in the United States and Europe, wherever her government-employed husband was assigned. In her writing, she draws on this wide variety of real life experiences to create an in-depth realistic story with local color. Her first novel, released in 2000, was THE BUDAPEST CONNECTION. She is presently working on her next novel, which she hopes to have released in early spring of 2001. She spends her time writing, reading, antiquing, and gardening at her lakeside home in Clear Lake, Iowa. She has three grown children; two sons and one daughter, and three grandchildren; two boys and one girl.
