Preview 1 Suddenly I look around and there's Jesus riding in the cart with the other two girls in our foursome. He is sitting in the middle with an arm around each of them. I holler across the fairway. "What are you doing? They don't even know you're here." Jesus looks at me with a gentle, compassionate smile and says, "You don't know that for sure." He's right. I don't know. I haven't ever talked to my friends about Him. I start to tighten up again and when I take a fast, jerky swing the ball heads right for Barracuda Lake. "I've heard you can walk on water. Any chance you can retrieve my ball from the middle of the lake? That was a new one. They cost $3 apiece." When I turn around Jesus is gone. I can see it's going to be a day of learning for me as Jesus goes cart-hopping all over the course. Preview 2 "Let me take care of your family. Everything is under control. I need you to follow me today," Jesus repeats. "Whoever desires to follow me will deny their own wishes, take up their cross and follow me." "B-buut, what about my family. I have two sisters in critical condition, a new grandchild on the way and two little boys who need someone to look after them. I haven’t finished the office work, my house is dirty and my parents need me. How long will this walk take?" "I can’t tell you how long the walk will be. I hope we can always walk together. If you love your family more than me, you aren’t worthy of my love," he answers. "How disgusting! You can’t seriously be contemplating doing what he asks," says Bub. "Don’t worry about your family. What about the golf tournament? With my help you can win today. Let’s go! It’s only 30 minutes until tee time. You should be ashamed to be seen with him. He’s crazy." Jesus replies, "Anyone who is ashamed of me and my words in this sinful generation, I will be ashamed of them when I come into the Glory of my Father. Get thee behind me Satan. I’m leaving in five minutes all who wish to follow may come." "I do want to come with you Jesus. Please wait I’m not even dressed" I answer. "Should I fix something to eat? I haven’t had any breakfast. What should I wear? How long will we be gone?" Should I bring my purse?" "Curses!" shouts Bub and stomps off towards the golf course.

Golf, grandsons, elderly parents, a family business, two ill sisters, an unchurched husband and a new puppy create a challenge. "Come, walk with me," Jesus says early Saturday morning while Bernita prepares for the biggest golf tournament of her life. Does he have to drag her kicking and screaming or does she leave her family and favorite THINGS to follow Him?
About the Author
Bernita Jackson Brown, born and raised in the small Western Nebraska town of Kimball, is often called Nebraska’s Erma Bombeck. She started writing at the age of 50 after raising her three sons. Bernita and husband Noia (Cork) Brown run a water well drilling and repair business. After many trips running parts and assisting in her family business Bernita wrote her first humor article and had it published in Water Well Journal. She is the author of the book Snowbird Mating Season, a humorous story about snowbirds (retired people) who fly south for the winter, taking their nests (RVs) with them. Bernita has been published in various publications and now writes regularly for RV Companion. Although Bernita likes to write humor she is very serious about her walk with Christ and her fellowship with the Holy Spirit as portrayed in her new book, A Stranger in My Golf Cart.
