I had just entered the hallway
when I thought about my money. It was in
my suit pants pocket. The pants were
still on the cot where I’d left them when I took them off. The money was all
there, even the coins. My bag with its valuables was on the cot. Inside were
the picture, the medal, the tie and the unused underwear and socks.
As I was putting the money into
my coveralls pocket, there was an explosion. The long shade covering the
window, tore away from where it was attached to the frame, and fell to the floor, followed by a huge
form!
At first I was too stunned to
move. Finally, getting the courage to
check it out, I stepped around the cot until I could clearly see what it
was. There, face down on the floor, was
a big man, with broken glass, and pieces of wood from the window scattered all
around him.
“Mary Ellen! Mary Ellen! Come here as quick as you can. Someone’s in here!”

There
was one big room, with a lot of steel panels piled against a wall. Two men were
connecting a panel to another one that was already hinged to yet another panel.
And, inside the place that they were closing up was a person! It appeared to be
an old man, and he was down on the bare floor. When they finished connecting
the front panel to those on each side, whoever was in there had no way of
getting out. And there were at least a dozen more “rooms” that had been set up
the same way!
