The Rescue on the River
Freddie and Tanga hopped over to the edge of the riverbank, and at Freddie’s command, “Hop”, hopped from the grassy riverbank onto the raft.
The raft started to rock back and forth, causing Freddie and Tanga to fall onto the deck of the raft.
It wasn’t until after they got back on their feet and hopped over to the pink ball, that Freddie yelled out, “Tanga, the stick that was holding the rope that was holding the raft against the river bank, pulled out of the ground! We are drifting away! We are drifting down the river!”
Tanga started crying.
Freddie said, “Don’t cry Tanga. Yell for help!”
Together they began yelling for help, but the steep hill that bordered the river was so high, their voices could not be heard. They yelled for help over and over again, as the tiny raft continued to drift, farther and farther down the river.
Meanwhile, up the river, across the playground, and down the path that led to the bright blue blanket, Freddie’s mother was busy setting the lunch plates and napkins for Freddie and Tanga’s lunch.

The Rescue on the River This story begins with Freddie’s mother taking Freddie and his pet Tanga to the park for a picnic, and an afternoon of fun. The excitement begins when Tanga’s ball rolls down a steep hill, and they stray from the playground to the edge of the river that winds through the park. A series of events follows that result in Freddie and Tanga drifting helplessly down the river on a log raft. During their journey down the river, they discover a helpless baby buzzard that has fallen from its nest into the water below. Moments later, Tanga spots something swimming towards the baby buzzard with its mouth wide open. Can Freddie and Tanga turn the raft in the direction of the baby buzzard? Can they chase away the hungry assailant? Will the rescue attempt be a success?
