Richard Pickens Cobb, the author, has spent over thirty-five years selling and appraising large ranches in the Trans-Pecos and Big Bend areas of west Texas. He not only visited the land, but the ancestors of the pioneer founders of that rough land. From their tales and his research, the author has written a collection of sixteen books about the Southwest, Texas and Mexico borderlands. In the book, Lost and Found Mines West of the Pecos and in the Big Bend, the author has explored each mine site described and all information herein contained is factual, with the exception of Marie, whose name was changed to protect her, and the exact location of the Bill Kelley Mine. Some of the detailed information was gathered from The Big Bend Handbook 128 and Mineral Resources Circular 56. The author is pictured at the entrance of the Santa Elena Canyon along the Rio Grande River in Big Bend National Park.
