The Briar Woods Sluggers
Freddie watched the pitcher throw the ball. When it was over home plate, Robo hit it with all his might. He put the bat down on the ground, and watched it fly up, up, and out towards the freshly Ork-cut outfield. It landed short of the farthest hit ball on the fly, but it kept on rolling and came to a stop only inches past the farthest white rock in the outfield.
Robo turned to Freddie and said, ”I told you! I’m the best!”
Freddie was starting to not like Robo. He started wondering what Robo would have done if he didn’t hit the longest ball. Freddie decided that he would never find out; he would probably never see Robo again.
Freddie’s mother and Tanga had started walking from the stands to the batting circle, when Robo got up to bat. In her hand she held the list of Cadets that would be going home with her following the last batter and the announcing of the winner. She never thought the last batter would be Freddie.
As they neared the batters box, Tanga said, “I’m going to cheer for Freddie really loud!”
“I’ll join you and I’ll keep my fingers crossed for good luck!”

This story begins with Freddie learning that his Dragon Cadet Cub Den has volunteered to help ready the baseball field for the Briar Woods Sluggers opening day game.
The cadets receive a batting lesson from the Briar Woods Sluggers star hitter, followed by a contest to see who can hit the longest ball.
Freddie, the last cadet to get up to bat, watches his chances of hitting the longest ball and winning tickets to the opening game dwindle.
The excitement builds up as Freddie, standing at the plate, hears Tanga yelling, “ You can do it!”
