The Clubhouse
As they approached the construction site, Freddie said, “Wow! This looks like the skeleton of a giant monster.”
Freddie’s mother, pointing to the neatly stacked pile of rocks said, “Look! It is going to have a big fireplace; maybe two.”
She was looking up at the roof of the house, wondering how large a family was going to be moving in, when she heard the sound of approaching footsteps.
A soft-spoken voice from one of the carpenters said, “I bet you are wondering how large a family is going to be moving into this big house?”
Freddie’s mother said, “Yes. That was exactly what I was thinking! Oh, let me introduce us. I am Betty, and this is Freddie and…Tanga. We live on
“My name is Rex. Well, it’s a family with two preschoolers.”
Freddie’s face burst out into a big smile. “Goodie! Goodie! Tanga, we are going to have new friends. Do you remember what my mother said about friends a little while ago?”
“Yes. I wonder if they will have lots of different toys that we can play with.”
Freddie said, “Ummm…let’s start making some wishes.”
As Freddie, Tanga, and Freddie’s mother were getting ready to leave, Freddie turned to Carpenter Rex and said, “When I grow up, I am going to build my mother a big house, just like this one.”
Carpenter Rex looked down at Freddie and said, “You better start small.”
Freddie answered, “What do you mean?”
“Well…maybe you should start by building a clubhouse. There is enough scrap wood here to make a nice one. It’s all yours if you want it.”
