After breakfast Freddie said to his mother, “Can I borrow a pair of scissors for a little while?”
“Scissors? What are you going to do with scissors outside?”
“It’s part of my secret.”
“OK, but only if you promise to obey the rules. Don’t do double or triple hops with them in your hands and if you hand them to Tanga, make sure that the points are facing toward you.”
“I will, Mommy.”
A short while later, Freddie and Tanga were busy laying the vines in rows and cutting them to the same lengths. Once they were cut, they took them over to the circle of umbrella of leaves and began tying one end of the vine to the end of an umbrella leaf.
When they were finished Tanga said, “Freddie, what’s next?”
Freddie put his fingers up to his lips thinking. Umm. We need something to tie the other end of the vines to. We need something to stand in. We need the laundry basket!
“Tanga, we need the big laundry basket!”
They hopped over to the clothesline. Tanga was the first to reach the big basket.
“It’s empty, Freddie!”
Together they pushed it across the dirt and grass until it was next to the circle of leaves. Freddie began tying the ends of the vines to the handles of the big laundry basket. When the last vine was tied Freddie said, “Tanga, climb in.”
Freddie followed Tanga. Once they were both in the basket Freddie said, “Hang on Tanga, we’re going up!”
They both stood silently in the big basket waiting for it to lift up into the air.

This story begins with Freddie and Tanga watching a preview of a television special, Hot Air Ballooning.
The following day Freddie comes up with a plan to build a hot air balloon. After sharing it with Tanga and agreeing to keep it a secret until it is completed, they begin searching for things in the backyard that they can use in building their Secret Project.
The excitement starts when Freddie’s plan becomes a reality and Freddie and Tanga find themselves lifting up from the ground and being carried by the wind to a faraway place.
