About the Book

The Country Sampler is a collection of memories growing up in the country in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  It takes place during the l950's and l960's, when days were moving at a much slower pace.  Included are many family pictures and humorous stories depicting life in a rural setting with a Scandinavian background.


About the Author

            Susan Halverson, born in Chicago, Illinois, spent all of her life in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in the little town of Iron River.

 

            After graduating from Ferris State University, Big Rapids, Michigan, with a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education (biology and math) and graduate work at Northern Michigan University, Marquette, Michigan, she taught at Forest Park, Crystal Falls, Michigan, for many years until her retirement.  She was also active in music at Grace Covenant Church, Stambaugh, Michigan.

 

 

            Susan is married to Don Halverson, a retired coach and teacher originally from Stambaugh, Michigan, has two sons-Toby and Travis, two stepdaughters–Julie and Cindy, a stepson Pat, two daughters-in-law, Kathy and Stephanie, and three grandchildren–Kirsten, Sean, and Ava.

 

            Since her retirement, she and her husband reside in North Fort Myers, Florida.

 

            Her wonderful memories of growing up in the country of Upper Michigan will always remain with her.
