About the Author

William Furr began life in Columbus, Mississippi, on August 6, 1945. This date was important to William as he shares a birthday with the famous poet Alfred Lord Tennyson. William writes poetry and suspenseful short stories.

William has faced many challenges in his lifetime. When he was very young, he had to have surgery. During this surgery, William died on the operating table. However, they were able to revive him, although he was without oxygen long enough for his skin to discolor.

As a small child, William fell from a second-story window to a brick terrace below. He landed on his head. Again, he was at death’s door. As he grew into a young man, he began noticing problems with concentration. Mental illness had taken root.

William suffered from manic depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and schizophrenia. As a young teenager, William was hospitalized in Memphis where he underwent insulin shock and electric shock therapy. Later, a physician learned through an air study that William’s frontal lobe of his brain was 30% larger than a normal person. The frontal lobe is where emotions are formed.

William has suffered from numerous nervous breakdowns, many of them during his teenage years. He went from one hospital to another. This made formal education impossible. In those days, there were no special education teachers. He was only able to complete one year of high school.

Despite all these problems and the lack of formal education, William is a master at composition. As you lose yourself in his wandering tales, consider the mental state of the author. William continues to suffer from schizophrenia and obsessive-compulsive disorder. One wonders how someone so fraught with mental disease could concentrate enough to compose short stories.
