Depression
-----------
One of the major tools that the enemy uses to wear individuals out is depression. It is an epidemic that eats away the motivational effort within a character. Dreams slowly deteriorate as time goes by and feelings of doubt increases. There is something on the inside that constantly sends negative thoughts that allows depression to rule our lives. It’s funny how our attitude changes from day to day. How one day we can wake up and feel like we’re on top of the world and the next day the world is on top of us. How one day you can have such a determination to be prosperous, and the next day prosperity is not even in view. It seems as though you’re on a spiritual roller coaster, up today down tomorrow. Then, all of a sudden the roller coaster ride stops and everything in your life stops with it. When feeling down in despair we sit and analyze our lives and the things that are going on. Thinking of ways to make ourselves even more miserable. In this state of intellect the mind is a constant battle ground for the enemy. There’s always a war going on. What goes on in the mind effects the operation of the body and the spirit suffers dramatically. For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he (Proverbs 23:7). If you think that you are a conqueror than you can be. If you think that you will always struggle with this mind battle than this will always be your struggle. Deliverance has to begin in the mind. An alcoholic can attend a dozen AA meetings, but if that persons’ mind is not made up to stop drinking the meetings will be unsuccessful.
We are unable to make wise decisions because our emotions are eating away at us. It’s not good to make decisions based on your emotions because your emotions are subject to change. A test may come your way and the first thought that will be placed in your mind is to run away. Running away doesn’t solve problems it just delay’s them. When the Lord told Jonah to speak against the city of Nineveh he tried to run away. He went in a complete opposite direction from where he was supposed to go. Even when he ran trouble still found him where he was. After while, he was in a situation where he had no other choice, but to do the will of God (Jonah chps. 1-4 ). God sits high and looks low so how can you run from somebody that has a downward view?
Many people suffer with depression and don’t realize that they are depressed. It is not only a feeling, but also a sickness. When a physician treats depression he often has to treat the body as well as the mind. Logical decisions cannot be comprehended, a loss of desires occur, and the appetite either increases or decreases. It’s a chemical imbalance in the brain that cannot be treated by simply laughing it away. At this point our guard is down and the enemy knows it. Our spirit is completely open to the wicked treasures that Satan has to offer. He tends to trap most of his victims by bringing those things that we were once delivered from. When a person gets delivered from something that spirit will linger to try to attack again. He brings those things that we’ve once loved or once entangled ourselves in because he knows the possibilities of us giving in. We have to learn the tricks of the enemy so that he won’t swallow us up. You can’t let your vulnerable spirit become a welcome map to everything that the enemy has in store. God’s word (the Bible) is or weapon and our hands are our receptors to Heaven, and every time we let our hands go down the enemy comes in and we loose the battle.
