About the Book
Following his marriage, Jake returns home to find his bride of one week murdered. In despair and with revenge on his mind, he suffers a breakdown. With the police investigation gone cold, justice seems to be unlikely. However, further events unfold, and once again, Jake’s life is threatened by old foes.
About the Author
Charlie Gardner was born August 1949 and raised and schooled in a small village a few miles south of Reading. He retired at fifty-six, after nearly forty years with Lloyds Bank. His first novel, Gods Earth, based on his father’s wartime experiences and his own first years in Lloyds Bank. His first novel makes him wince when he spots the grammatical errors, and he was careful to eliminate this in his second novel, Rotten Timbers. His third novel, Barrel of Lies, is now followed by a fourth, A Dish Best Served Cold, which once again resurrects the character of Jake Beck. His interests are family, travel, Liverpool FC, Formula 1, and reading for pleasure. His own novels are, he hopes, stories to be enjoyed by the reader.
