Miracles Happen Every Day

“You have been my hope, O Sovereign Lord,
My confidence since my youth. From birth I have relied on You;
You brought me forth from my mother’s womb. I will ever praise You.”
Psalms 71:5-6 (NIV)

I was five years old when I looked into the mirror and asked, “God, WHO AM I…that you loved me, healed me and gave me life?”
For me life has never been about what to eat or what style of clothes to wear. Life has been about discovering why God was so mindful of me that He would chose me to express His love, the love of Christ Jesus, to others around the world. I had a burning desire in my heart and my passion was to be a faithful servant of Christ Jesus. Maybe, the desire was because we would not be alive today, if it were not for the miracle working power of God and my daddy and mother having an extraordinary faith in the healing power of Christ Jesus. Yes, I said “we” because I am a twin.
My mother was thirty weeks pregnant, didn’t know she was having twins and went into labor earlier than expected. It was an icy night in January and the drive to the hospital was treacherous. But with God’s protection my parents arrived to the hospital safely.
My daddy took my mother’s hand and prayed for Jesus to surround her with His grace, and peace. He then asked for Him breathe His breath into the baby, causing its respiratory systems and heart to be as strong as if it was a full term baby. In Jesus name.”
My mother was concerned about delivering the baby so early and the doctor tried to comfort her.
The doctor said, “Mrs. Brumble, you will be holding your baby in your arms soon.”
During the delivery the doctor said, “Mrs. Brumble you have a little girl. Wait there is another baby, you have twins and this one is a little boy.”
We were small and weighed between two and three pounds. We were rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit where we were placed in incubators. Technology, in those days was nothing to compare with today. After the doctor finished examining us he talked with our parents.
The doctor said, “These babies are tiny, but strong. Their respiratory systems and hearts are as strong as if they were a full term babies”.
My daddy said, “It is a miracle! What a mighty God we serve! He answered our prayer.”
Yes, we were “miracle babies” perfectly formed and healthy!
Seven days later, the doctor allowed our parents to hold us for the first time.
My mother said, “Oh, they are so tiny.” The nurse handed the little boy, who weighed two pounds to my mother and handed me weighing one pound two ounces to my daddy.
My daddy recalled me being so small he was able to cover my entire hand with his thumb and hold me in the palm of his hand.
He knelt down by my mother’s side so she could see her precious daughter for the first time. He looked at his little boy, took him from my mother's arms, and blessed his babies.
My mother desired to hold us both at the same time. He placed me in one arm and then my brother in her other arm. She smiled as the tears ran down her face.
My daddy, placing his hand on each of us, began praying this beautiful prayer over us:
“God, these babies came from you. You knew them while they were being formed in their mother’s womb. They are fearfully and wonderfully made and you alone, breathed the breath of life into their nostrils. You alone know their names, they are Your children. Please Lord, touch their fragile bodies, give them strength, let them be nourished with the food they consume and let them gain weight daily. We ask You to give Your angels charge over them we give them to You to work your perfect works in their lives.” (Paraphrased Psalms 91 and 139)
I was five months old when the doctor called my parents to the hospital. He informed them I was still having difficulty eating and therefore not gaining weight properly. I weighed three pounds, seven ounces but was growing weaker every day. The doctor said he didn’t think I was going to live and ask them if they would like to take me home to enjoy the time I had left.
This news was devastating to my parents. They agreed to take me home.
As they drove home my mother was smiling and held me securely in her arms.
She said, “Donna, you will live and not die, Jesus is Your Lord. He is Your ‘Abba Father’. He will heal you!”
My daddy agreed saying, “Amen!”
One evening mother decided to go to church. She took quilts and made a bed for me to sleep. She prayed nearby. They attended church every night. One night, my two year old brother jumped up saying, “Mama, Mama, Mama, come here.”
She quietly said, “What is it Ray?”
Ray responded, “Mama, Mama I see a bright light shining on three babies and I see three angels over these babies.”
Many years later, with tears streaming down her face, my mother told me she also saw the light but did not see the angels. The rest of the story is history, because I was instantly healed. That night I began eating without throwing up. Needless to say, I was healed by the power of Jesus Christ. MIRACOUSLY, I LIVED!
Her voice was broken as she repeatedly spoke, “You lived, praise God…you lived! You began gaining weight. The doctor was so surprised when he saw you again.”
My mother said, “The doctor gave up but God didn’t. He always answers prayer!”
Years later my mother heard me singing and she said, “I knew you were a gift from God and you belonged to Him. You truly were predestined to serve God…all of your life.”

God is in control and Miracles happen every day!
