Sonnet 77 Serenity
Deep in the forest of fear and self-doubt,
I search for a path through the sadness.
I call out to God and pray with resolve
And desperately look for an answer.
Sometimes it feels like God doesn’t listen,
And I am alone and unwanted.
The longer I wander around in distress,
The more I feel tired and frightened.
Finally, I wait for the storm to subside,
And thoughts are set free from my anger.
I remember that God’s concept of time
Is more than beliefs I chase after.
The kingdom of God rests deep in my heart,
Yet I look for peace in everything else.
Sonnet 83 Stillness
The presence of silence arises within,
And life is a moment of freedom.
Awareness expands and feels like a friend,
Yet no one is there to be greeted.
I know in my heart that love is the source,
And God is this Being of stillness.
This merging of sound and absence of thought
Is pure like the wisdom of children.
Now that this moment of peace has been found,
My heart becomes restless without it.
Feeling this presence of peace growing strong,
The world is an ocean of quiet.
Lost in the darkness that sought only me,
I was a pauper who thought He was king.

About the Book
Writing inspirational poetry has been an important way for the author to express his feelings about God. John Zurn has an MA in English and is a retired teacher and psychosocial rehabilitation counselor. He has been writing and publishing prose and poetry for over forty years. These publishers include Chipmunka Publishing, Authorhouse, and Salesian Missions. John and his wife, Donna, live in Geneva, Illinois.
