The Apple Orchard
“Yeah, that was the day we stayed at Mrs. Dill’s house and played with all the different colored frogs by the pond in her backyard.”
Tanga started giggling.
“What’s so funny Tanga?”
“Do you remember Mrs. Dill asking me what I had in my hand?”
Now Freddie started to giggle. “I remember. Why did you say nothing?”
“I didn’t want Mrs. Dill to know what I had in my hand.”
“Tanga, the frog’s yellow legs were wiggling back and forth, and it was making a loud croaking noise.”
“I know, but I wanted to take it home for a pet.”
Freddie called out to his mother, “Mommy, Tanga thinks we are big enough to help you pick apples this year.”
“Did you say Tanga? I do remember saying something about you and Tanga being too little to go with me last year. Well, you two have grown up a lot since last year. Let me think about it”
Tanga whispered to Freddie, “Goodie, goodie. Let’s act grown up in the supermarket.”
“Yeah! That’s a good idea Tanga. That’s a grown up idea!”

The Apple Orchard
This story begins with Freddie’s mother taking a different route to the supermarket. It isn’t until they are passing by the Apple Road Orchard, that Freddie notices, what he believes to be, red dots on the trees.
The excitement starts when Freddie’s mother takes Freddie and Tanga apple picking the following day. After filling up their basket with apples, Freddie’s mother says, “I’m going to have to go the entrance of the orchard to get an empty crate to put some more apples in. Don’t leave this spot unless it is for an emergency.”
