Her thoughts shifted to her husband as she tried to suppress all thoughts and memories of Justin Blake from her mind.
Those two young men are so dependent upon John, as is Plimoth. His hard work and goodwill with the Abenaki has made this a profitable venture for the colony. It should not be long before Plimoth’s debt with the Merchant Adventures is paid in full. Our Governor Bradford most assuredly greatly values John’s contribution to the welfare of the colony.
Try as she did to fill her mind with John and Plimoth’s business endeavors, her thoughts returned to Justin as she leaned against the railing on the porch and looked out again, towards the trading post. Recalling that wrenching, last farewell in the hay barn so many years before her thoughts continued, I should not allow such remembrances to fill my head. A goodwife would heed not this temptation. She would return to her bed, leaving Mister Justin Blake to his much needed sleep. It would be most ill advised to awaken him.
But I fear I may never have occasion to speake with him alone again, and I must. I could rap on the door and speake through it. Perhaps he will awaken, dress, and come out to me. If John should return, he will find us conversing on the open porch and not alone behind closed doors.
She went down the three steps, crossed the yard, and found herself standing at the front door of the trading post. Rapping softly on the door, she called out to him, " Mister Blake…” She rapped harder and raised her voice, “Please…Justin Blake, will you awaken?”
Justin woke up, slightly startled, forgetting where he was. He sat up the second time she called.
“Yes, who is at the door?” He got up and walked over to it. “Who is it?”
“Forgive me for disturbing your sleep. It is I…Elizabeth Howland. I would request that you put on you clothing and come speake with me on the cabin porch.”

Bonnie Darlene, previously a native of California, has lived and worked in Vermont for over twenty years. She is the mother of three grown children and the grandmother of two grandchildren.
She enjoys history, literature, theater, music, art, and the companionship of a good dog. Majoring in Early Childhood Education, she obtained a B.S. from Southern Connecticut State College and has completed graduate courses in Special Education at Keene State College in New Hampshire.
Bonnie Darlene lives in a small Vermont village. She has worked in Vermont schools, private and public, and has also been a home care provider for special needs adults.
Plimoth A Remembrance is her third book in this series. She illustrated the covers of these books and also two book covers for her sister, Bernadine Joyce: Davy, and For the Love of Davy. Presently in the planning stages is a book to be co authored by Bonnie Darlene and three of her sisters which will be a collaboration of stories and memories of an American family.
