It’s Almost Over


It had been a great summer for the girls at camp. They were like three peas in a pod as they played on the playground. Summer was just about over and in a couple of days everyone would be going to school.
“It’s almost over,” said Destiny. “We had so much fun this summer.”
“Yes,” said Becca. “But some great things happened for us.”
“I know that it was good for me,” said Mauri. “I got to meet you and Jesus.”
“That’s right,” said Destiny. “But you know that we might be going to different schools because of where we live.”
“Really?” said Mauri.
“Yes,” said Becca. “You have to go to the school in your neighborhood or get special permission to transfer.”
“That means we will be split up,” said Mauri. “I just met you and you are my only friends. I never had any friends like you before.”
Mauri seemed upset. Destiny remembered that Mauri had moved around a lot with her mother before coming to the summer camp.
“Maybe we can ask Grandmommy about you going to the same school with me and Becca,” said Destiny. “Of course we won’t be in the same grade, because we are older but maybe we can be at the same school.”
Playtime was over and the children had to come inside. Mauri was walking slowly with her head hung down.
“What’s the matter, Mauri?” asked Pastor Grandmommy.
“Well, summer is almost over and I have to go to school,” said Mauri.
“That’s o.k.” said Pastor Grandmommy. “It will be exciting to learn new things and meet new people.”
“I don’t want to meet new people,” said Mauri. “Destiny and Becca are my only true friends.”
Tears begin to flow down Mauri’s face. Pastor Grandmommy hugged her and said, “Mauri, you will be just fine.”
“No I won’t,” said Mauri. Tears were rolling down her round cheeks.
Destiny and Becca turned around to talk to Mauri. They gave her a great big hug. Destiny knew that they had to talk to Jesus.
“Pastor Grandmommy, we’ll take of Mauri,” said Becca.

The girls walked down the hall toward their classrooms all hugged up. The tears Mauri had stopped just a little.
“We are going to talk to Jesus about this,” said Destiny. “Remember we have a prayer circle. We are going to talk to Him together. All three of us and He will be there to hear us.”
“I remember what Pastor Grandmommy taught us about touching and agreeing,” said Becca. “She said that when we pray together like that we have to be in harmony with each other.”
“What’s harmony?” asked Mauri.
“It means that we make the same sound with our hearts and mouths,” said Destiny. “And when Jesus hears us He goes into action to answer us, because we are all believing the same thing.”
“Ok,” said Mauri.
“What are we going to pray for?” asked Becca. “We have to be specific.”
“That right,” said Destiny. “Grandmommy told us to ask Jesus for what we want.”
“Ok, Mauri,” said Becca. “Let’s hear what you want.”
“I want to go to the same school that you do,” said Mauri. “And if I can’t, I want Jesus to send me a special friend just like you and Destiny.”
The girls went into the class and stood in a circle holding hands. They stood silent for just a moment and then they began to pray.
“Jesus, Mauri wants to go to the same school that we do,” said Destiny. “You told us to ask anything in your name and you will hear us and answer us. We know that you love Mauri and want the best for her and us. We want her to go to the same school as us even though we will be in different grades because she is new in town. So we thank you now for answering our prayer.”
“Amen,” they all said.
“What do you think will happen?” asked Mauri.
“I don’t know,” said Destiny. “It’s in His hands now.”
“ You can’t worry or doubt,” said Becca.
“That ‘s right.” said Destiny. “Remember, it’s in His hands and His hands made everything we see.”
“Yeah,” said Mauri. “This should not be a hard thing for Jesus, cause He got big hands.”
Destiny and Becca laughed at Mauri because she had stretched her hands very ,very, wide to show how big Jesus’ hands were.
“How big are Jesus’ hands, Mauri?” asked Destiny jokingly.
“Bigger than we can see,” said Mauri.
“You are so right,” said Becca.
Destiny started laughing again.
“What’s so funny?” asked Becca.
“Oh, I just imagine Jesus looking at Mauri showing how big His hands are,” said Destiny.
“When I get home, I’m going to talk to Jesus about His hands and how big they are,” said Mauri. “Because the songs says He has the whole world in them.”
“You are so right, Mauri,” said Destiny. “He does have the whole world in His hands and we are in them too.”
