Open House The year had passed very quickly since Pastor Grandmommy began working on the building for the new school. At first it seemed like there was not enough space, but after moving a couple of classrooms around, everything was in place. The workers were adding the finishing touches and everything would be ready for the open house. As Pastor Grandmommy walked down the hall, she looked into every classroom. She began to thank God for the school and the children that would be attending. At one point, tears came to her eyes because she knew that Jesus would be with every child that came to the school in a special way. She heard footsteps coming down the hall and she knew exactly who it was. “Destiny,” said Pastor Grandmommy. “ Is that you in the hall?” “Yes Grandmommy,” said Destiny. “Me too,” said Beccca. “Me too,” said Mauri. “You girls are something else,” said Pastor Grandmommy. “You just can’t wait until the school opens.” “We just wanted to see the school that Jesus built,” said Destiny. “Pastor Grandmommy,” said Becca. “Do you remember when we prayed and asked Jesus for this school?’ “Yes I do,” said Pastor Grandmommy. “ It was a year ago.” “Now we get to see what we prayed for,” said Destiny. As they were walking down the hall, Mauri noticed that the rooms were of different colors. She peeked into one of the rooms and noticed a rainbow. “Pastor Grandmommy,” said Mauri. “All of the rooms are the colors of a rainbow and there is a rainbow painted on the wall of this one.” “I didn’t see that,” said Becca. “Does each room have a rainbow?” “Yes,” said Destiny. “And it has a really special meaning.” “What does it mean?” asked Mauri. “Well,” said Pastor Grandmommy. “It is a sign of the covenant between the school and Jesus.” “What is a covenant?” asked Becca. “A covenant is like a contract between people,” said Pastor Grandmommy. “You mean that you have a contract with Jesus for us for the school?” asked Becca. “Yes,” said Pastor Grandmommy. “Remember the story of Noah and the ark.” “I don’t remember all of it,” said Mauri. “It is in the first book in the Bible, Genesis,” said Destiny. “It is about the great flood that God sent because of the wicked people on the earth,” said Pastor Grandmommy. “What does that have to do with us?” asked Becca. “Are we wicked?” “No,” said Pastor Grandmommy. “The rainbow is a sign of His promise for the school.” “What did He promise us?” asked Mauri. “The promise is that He is with us at this school and we can pray and talk to Him as much as we want,” said Destiny. “You mean talk to Jesus, don’t you?” asked Becca. “Jesus is God’s only son,” said Destiny. “If you talk to Jesus you know He is going to tell His Father. So you still will be talking to God.” “It is just like talking to both of them,” said Mauri. “Anyway, this is His school and the rainbow is the sign,” said Pastor Grandmommy. “When is the grand opening?” asked Becca. “Tomorrow about this time,” said Pastor Grandmommy. “Will we be able to come?” asked Mauri. “Can I tell them the secret surprise?” asked Destiny. “There is a secret surprise?” asked Becca. “Yes, said Pastor Grandmommy. “And you are it.” “What is it?” asked Becca and Mauri. Destiny could hardly wait to tell them. She had kept the secret a long time. She looked at Pastor Grandmommy with her eyes wide. Pastor Grandmommy nodded her head for Destiny to go ahead and tell them. “We are the official ushers at the Open House!” said Destiny. “We get to wear a uniform and even have pins with our names on them!” “Really?” asked Becca and Mauri. “Really,” said Pastor Grandmommy. The girls began screaming and jumping up and down and running a circle. Pastor Grandmommy just looked at the joy that was on each of their faces. It was worth all of the work of the past year just to see them happy about the school. On the day of the Open House the girls were there with their uniforms standing beside Pastor Grandmommy as she cut the ribbon. They ushered many parents down the halls and answered questions as best they could. The parents were surprised to see how great the school looked and how much the girls knew. They all wanted to register their children “Look,” said Destiny. “There is Myles and his parents.” “Guess who is coming to school with us,” said Becca. “Who?” asked Mauri. “Zach and Zeph, the twins,” said Becca. “I don’t know them,” said Mauri. “They are from our old school,” said Destiny. “It would be nice if some of my friends from my old school could come,” said Mauri. “They still might come,” said Destiny. “It is not too late to register.” “Did you tell them about the school?” asked Becca. “Well, no I didn’t,” said Mauri. “You should call them and tell them so that they can tell their parents to come and check it out,” said Destiny. “I think that Ruth and Esther might like to come,” said Mauri. “But I don’t know about the 4 G’s.” “Who are the 4 G’s?” asked Becca. “A group of boys who were all named after the four Gospels,” said Mauri. “Remember, I told you about them.” “You can call Ruth and Esther,” said Destiny. “And I’ll ask Grandmommy to send the boys a letter to invite them and their parents.” “That is a good plan,” said Becca. Pastor Grandmommy saw the three girls talking and she knew that they were up to something. She smiled as usual because whatever it was they were up to, it was always about Jesus and that was extraordinary.
