While they all slept, the train chugged across the flatlands and after passing through the
Freddie’s mother was awakened by an announcement: Next stop … Ten minutes … Evergreen.
She got out of her seat and headed back to where Freddie and Tanga were seated. Gently touching Freddie and Tanga on the shoulder, she said, “Time to wake up.”
After the train came to a stop and they were all standing on the Evergreen station platform, Freddie’s mother said, “Do you remember the rules to obey that we talked about yesterday? We are very far from Briar Woods and the only way home is by train.”
Both Freddie and Tanga said, “I do!”
After they left the station platform and were beginning to cross the road, Tanga shouted, “Look at all the piles of white snow. Some of them are taller than I am!”
Freddie added, “Mommy, can we stay here and play winter?”
Freddie’s mother held out her hands and said, “Not here. Hold onto my hands. We’re going to cross the road and go to the park where it is safe to play in the snow …,” she paused, “and go ice skating.”
Freddie said, “Ice skating? I don’t have any ice skates.”
“I’m going to rent ice skates for you and Tanga.”
On the way to the park, Tanga said to Freddie, “I’m not even cold yet. Isn’t winter supposed to be cold? How are we going to freeze?”

This story begins with Freddie’s mother taking Freddie & Tanga on a train ride to Evergreen for a day of fun and to have them experience winter for the very first time.
The excitement begins late in the day when they are boarding the train back home to Briar Woods; moments after the conductor calls out, “All aboard.”
As the train is beginning to leave the Evergreen station platform, Freddie senses a passenger in trouble and hops out of his seat to investigate. Tanga is quick to follow.
