Many people don’t think of a small business investment as a way to achieve the “Poolside Lifestyle” that we referred to above. People tend to think that you need to own real estate properties or be heavy investors in the stock market to achieve that lifestyle. But that’s simply not the case. A small business investment can achieve that for you. You simply need to create the small business opportunity that will do that for you.
Absentee is the Way to Be: One of the goals of your small business investment is to create an operation that is absentee, or semi-absentee. Indeed, one of the main points of this book is for you to be able to create an absentee business. We can think of no negative outcomes of building a business that is semi or entirely absentee. It has only upside qualities. The key is to do it the right way, which is where the information in this book comes into play.
Small Business as a Job: Many people become small business owners, because it is something that they love doing. Suppose, for instance, that you love working outside, so you started a landscaping company. You take care of lawns and residential landscaping needs. You love what you do initially. However, after fifteen or twenty years of working outside and doing the same thing, your attitude changes. Almost overnight, it seems that the thing you loved doing is now a chore that you don’t like at all. Jones was the kind of guy who liked working with his hands, and he hated sitting behind a desk. He made a decision early in his life never to be an in-the-office type of guy. So in his early twenties, he started a landscaping business. Initially, he cut lawns only, but as time went on, he began adding different services and products, like trimming trees, installing plants, etc. His business was successful, and it grew. Furthermore, Jones was a hands-on owner, for the most part. He enjoyed working with the customers, and they appreciated Jones’s efforts. Then one day he woke up and realized that, after twenty years of doing the thing that he wanted, he did not want to do it any longer. He was forty-three and wanted something else. Unfortunately, Jones did not develop his business as an absentee business; he was still involved, practically at every level. Jones made a decision to sell his business. He wanted out because he was burned out. Unfortunately, Jones did not maintain good financial records, and even after twenty years of running a profitable business, for many years with a strong customer base, he had a hard time selling it.
Why Strive for Absentee: Obviously, one reason to strive for an absentee business is to avoid having a “job” that eventually you loathe, as we pointed out. Also, getting tired and becoming burned out can become a reality for many small business investors. Becoming burned out is a negative situation for the small business owner, with equally negative consequences. Yuvi Shmul is a small business investor, intermediary, and owner. Additionally, he is a consultant, a coach, a visionary, and an author. He has worked with a Wall Street firm as a financial analyst, but decided to “Make It Big” by investing in small business. So he quit his high-pressure, lucrative profession to pursue his goal of “Poolside Living.” He used his experience as a small business owner to partner with two other small business owners and developed one of the largest private wireless chains in the US —Yakety Yak Wireless. Currently, he and his partners have franchises and licenses in several states, and are expanding rapidly. After a few years of hard work, he accomplished his goal and wants to help you accomplish yours.
Yuvi has helped many become successful entrepreneurs. Moreover, his “Make It Big With Yuvi” company has also shown people how to “achieve poolside living,” and it can show you too. With his extensive experience in small business, from purchasing to managing to growing, and to selling, Yuvi understands the nuances of small business investment well.
Yuvi’s partner, Ron Peltier, has worked in the collegiate environment for a decade before deciding to “Make It Big.” He has written several books on small business, as well. Before he became an author, he developed training materials, retreats, manuals, and seminars. Additionally, his experience includes hiring, managing, and evaluating employees, as well as implementing comprehensive systems for large administrative divisions at several universities.
